Founder & Owner, N. Christy Consulting

Talent & Organizational Development Practitioner

For over 12 years, I’ve had the privilege of witnessing Jamie’s talents in multiple capacities. First, as his client, when he guided us through the implementation of our new learning & performance management system. His technical skills and perspective on strategic learning and performance management, coupled with his skilled training, facilitation & consulting skills helped to ensure that, in addition to functioning properly from a technical perspective, it also would help us serve the organization's talent needs. We were so impressed by him that we recruited him to the HR/L&OD team, where, as his manager, I knew that any responsibility given to him, would be done thoughtfully, with high quality outputs. He built strong relationships with his teammates, internal clients and senior leaders. The next phase of our careers found us back in a client/consultant relationship, but this time I was the consultant and he was the client.

For over 8 years, I was privileged to work with Jamie and many of his team of Talent and Organizational Development professionals. During this time, I was impressed with his patience with trying to help shift a 90+ year leadership culture. His team flourished under his leadership. He ensured that they were not limited by their “title” or hierarchical level in the organization. He expected a lot of his team, and rewarded their commitment to continuous learning and quality service by ensuring they had the opportunity to work directly with senior leaders, to own their responsibilities, try new ideas and forge their own path as appropriate. I observed people eagerly take lateral role changes to be part of his team because they knew they would have the opportunity to add value and be seen for their abilities and contributions. Jamie isn’t a perfect leader…who is? For me, more important than perfection, is the ability to admit mistakes and learn from them. I have found Jamie to be very open to feedback, when presented thoughtfully, and he has a desire to practice what he asks of others. Because of this, he is an effective coach and mentor.

Finally, I saw, in Jamie, a leader who is always looking ahead. Who sees the big picture and was ready to make informed, difficult (sometimes unpopular) decisions because they were the right thing to do. He thinks outside of the box and does not take perceived limits at face value, but finds avenues to move forward when it is important to the organization and the people who ARE the organization. On two significant occasions, I observed Jamie sacrifice his own personal interests and well-being for the sake of his team, because he sees himself as part of the team, not above it. He was not asked or encouraged to by his peers or leaders to make these sacrifices. On the contrary, he thought ahead when he saw the potential for tough financial times and created alternative paths to minimize the negative impact on others.
